Synagogue life at Congregation Kneseth Israel....Rabbi Weisblum & Kneseth Israel Pre-School Children

Congregation Kneseth Israel has children's services each Shabbat and a special "Tot Shabbat" session once a month led by Rabbi Weisblum. "An Afternoon of Music"Sunday, January 5, 2003 Some of the finest musical talent of members of the synagogue performed on a Sunday afternoon. Performers included a Ladies Choir directed by Numa Lavy, solo vocalists Brian Hoffman and Shana Weiner, pianists Numa Lavy, Daniella Brown, and Nathan Suberi, and double bass solo from Leland Snyder. Leland Snyder and Brian Hoffman were former recipients of the "Teen of the Week" award from The Capital, the Annapolis daily newspaper.

Tu B'Shevat SederSunday, January 19, 2003 Tu B'Shevat is the fifteenth of the Hebrew month of Shevat commemorates the festive "New Year of Trees". It is a joyous holiday celebrated by the donating of trees to Israel, eating of fresh fruits, and the singing of psalms and songs. The festival marks the beginning of a new cycle of blossoming and fruit-bearing for Israel. Congregation Kneseth Israel hosted the celebration of Tu B'Shevat for the Daniel Rothman Consolidated School, led by Rabbi Moshe Weisblum. Rabbi Weisblum also led the singing, accompanied by pianist Numa Lavy. President Lore Singerman presents Dr. Bruce Friedman and Mr. Earl Diamond with awards at the 2003 Annual Meeting on January 26. Bruce Friedman has taken on the responsibility of organizing minyans for congregants who are observing yahrzeits, spending several hours each week making phone calls, and attending minyans regularly. Earl Diamond, the electronics maven at Kneseth Israel, has unselfishly devoted many hours each week helping with the synagogue computers, maintaining the yahrzeit database, sending yahrzeit notices in the mail, lighting the yahrzeit lamps in the sanctuary, and tending to electronic maintenance needs in the synagogue. Purim2003 marked the first Purim in Annapolis for Rabbi Weisblum. There was a nice enthusiastic turnout on Monday evening, March 17 for the reading of the Megillah Esther. Below left, Rabbi Weisblum gets ready to read from the magillah for the first time as our rabbi. Right are two of his children, Ayala the butterfly, and Natan the Prince.

On Tuesday, March 18 a Purim "Schpiel & Meal" took place with a skit featuring the "Not Ready for Purim Time Players". A delicious spaghetti dinner was served, good food and fun for everyone.

Rabbi Moshe Weisblum loves to teach and work with children. These photos were taken on April 13 at a model seder, where the rabbi is explaining the different symbols of Passover and the sections of the haggadah for the festive seder meals.

A kiddush followed the inspiring service, and a party with a Middle East decorum and cuisine took place that evening. Nathan is a graduate of the Aleph Bet Jewish Day School, and an honor student at the Beth Tfliloh Jewish Day School in Baltimore. He enjoys sports and is a very gifted pianist. Elliott Goldberg Bar MitzvahSaturday, June 28, 2003 A Teacher and his Student: Rabbi Weisblum worked many hours teaching and preparing Elliott Goldberg for his Bar Mitzvah. Elliott, an honor student at Beth Tfiloh Jewish Day School in Baltimore, did a superb job on his Bar Mitzvah. He davened the entire preliminary service, read the entire Torah parsha (Shelach), chanted the haftorah, and gave a marvelous speech. (Photos courtesy of Spectrum Productions).
