"Read Hebrew America" Program at Kneseth Israel

October 12, 2004 marked the beginning of the "Read Hebrew America/Canada" program, coordinated with the National Jewish Outreach Program, taught by Ilanit Evers.  This is a series of ten 90-minute courses, comprised of five classes of "Level  One Hebrew", and five course of "Level Two Hebrew".  The courses are free of charge and open to the public.  Above in the top two photos are Mrs. Evers in action, introducing the Hebrew letters to the class (lesson #1).  Below is the attentive class, which is comprised of people of all ages that want to learn how to read Hebrew.

Uri Arkin-Sarah Krimins Wedding

December 12, 2004

Sarah Krimins, daughter of Dr. David and Rosalind Krimins, were married at Congregation Kneseth Israel on the fifth day of Chanukah.  The wedding featured all of the traditions of a Jewish wedding, including the chatan's tish (groom's table), the bedeken (veiling of the bride), the chuppah, and a real freilach reception and seudah (meal).  Entertainment was provided by the Kol Chayim klezmer orchestra.

Above:  At the "chatan's tish" (groom's table), Rabbi Weisblum reviews the tena'im and the ketubah with the chatan, Uri Arkin.  From left to right are Mordechai Arkin (father of the chatan, Uri Arkin, Rabbi Weisblum, and Dr. David Krimins (father of the bride).  At right, Sarah Krimins signs the "Tena'im" document (the Ketubah is at the right of the Tena'im).  Pictured are Elimelech Weisblum (of of the two witnesses), Dr. Krimins, and Sarah (her mother seated is to her right).

At left, this photo was taken at the bedeken as the chatan is being danced to the kallah prior to the ceremony for the traditional "veiling of the bride".  To Sarah's left is her future mother-in-law, Mrs. Judith Arkin and her mother, Mrs. Rosalind Krimins.  To her immediate right is Rebitzen Emeritus Esther Rosenblatt, and Barbara Pepper, Sarah's grandmother.  At right is the beaming chatan and kallah, Uri and Sarah Arking, taking one of their few breathers during the reception.
